Rural Quincy Man Dies, Several Injured in Saturday Crash
UPDATE: The Adams County Coroner's Office has identified the person who died in the crash as 40 year old Joseph Strieker of rural Quincy.
The investigation into the crash continues.
UPDATE: Highway 104 reopened to traffic about 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
One person is dead and several are injured in a five-vehicle crash east of Quincy Saturday afternoon.
ORIGINAL STORY:
The Adams County Sheriff's Office reports the crash occurred on Highway 104 east of Meyer Road near Scottie's just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Five vehicles were involved, one person was pronounced dead and three were taken to Blessing Hospital for treatment. Others were treated and released at the scene by the Adams County Ambulance Service.
The cause of the fatal crash is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office with the help of the Illinois State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit.
As of about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, the Sheriff's Office was advising drivers to avoid the area.
Officials were recommending an alternate route around the crash site that includes State Street, County Road East 1323, Rock Quarry Road and Burton Road.
The Adams County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Quincy Police, Illinois State Police, Adams County Ambulance, Tri-Township Fire Department, Illinois Department of Transportation, Quincy Central Services and Burton Township Road Commissioner.
