A rural Pittsfield man is dead from injuries suffered when he crashed his vehicle into the Illinois River northeast of Milton in Pike County, Illinois just before 6 p.m. Saturday.

According to Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood, deputies were advised a vehicle had driven off a 150 foot bluff on private property into the river.

Shortly after emergency personnel arrived, the driver of the vehicle, 68 year old William Farnsworth, was pronounced dead.

Assisting deputies at the scene were the East Pike and Pittsfield Fire Departments, Pike County EMS and the Pike County Emergency Management Agency.
