Has Summer 2021 in Illinois been Unusually hot?
Have you noticed it being unusually hot throughout the summer of 2021?
I have lived in Illinois my whole life and this summer of 2021 feels like it has been a real hot one. We are currently, in the Quincy area of Illinois, under a heat advisory that will last almost all week long. And I know it's August in the Midwest so I shouldn't be shocked by that, but a couple weeks ago during late July and Hannibal BBQ Fest we were dealing with these record heats, and it got me to thinking is it just because last summer we were kept locked inside due to COVID and it's taking our bodies time to readjust? Or has summer 2021 been unusually hot?
Well when I searched for the answer one of the first things I found was from weather.com and in an article they wrote at the end of July they said that June of this year was extremely hot, in the article they say...
"June 2021 was America's hottest June in 127 years of records. It didn't just nudge ahead of June 2016 as the hottest, it obliterated that record by 0.8 degrees, an impressive interval in the realm of national temperature data."

Now that was just for the month of June, I know we are only in the first week and a half of August but I wanted to see if there was any data around July of this year so far, and I found this from an article on reuters.com, written just four days ago, saying...
"Last month was one of the world's hottest Julys on record, behind only 2019 and 2016, with unusually high temperatures seen in regions from Finland to the United States, EU scientists said on Thursday."

Now I'm not trying to go into a whole debate on Global Climate change or anything, I just thought it was interesting that I had been noticing that this summer has seemed unusually hot, and there is some data to back up that June and July so far have been in fact unusually hot.
