The handicap ramp was part of a $184,000 grant to renovate the pond. The pond was drained and reworked to fix a leak, expanded and a new fountain was added. The Parks Department also stocked the pond with a couple thousand fish and minnows. It will open to fishing in the spring once the fish have had time to fatten up and increase their numbers.
In addition to the handicap ramp, the park also has a playground that is user-friendly for kids with mobility or sensory issues. Sidewalk additions make it easier to access the shelters and other amenities at the park. The softball field is also handicap accessible, giving even more options for inclusive recreation.
Huckleberry Park offers the most choices for outdoor recreation. It has tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts, a ramp park, an 18-hole disc golf course in addition to the pond, playground, and softball field.
