Most of us sitting here in northeast Missouri and western Illinois have no trouble coming up with lists of natives of the Show-Me State (Walt Disney, Walter Cronkite, General Pershing, J.C. Penney) or the Land of Lincoln (Betty White, Bill Murray, Harrison Ford, Mary Astor).

But what about the Hawkeye State?

A check of iowaculture.gov showed a single-spaced, two column page of what they considered to be famous people whose lives began in Iowa.

There were 14 names that caught our attention to the extent that we found pictures and information about each of them and you'll see those as you keep scrolling.

Some of those notables not in our gallery include entertainers ranging from Fran Allison to MacDonald Carey to Stephen Collins to Bill Daley, the advice columnists Ann Landers and Abigail Van Buren, band leaders Glenn Miller and Meredith Wilson and American Gothic artist Grant Wood.

Among those that did make our Iowa A-Team include two fictional characters, two child actors and an iconic Western hero.
