Blunt Talks Transportation, Tourism, Broadband in Hannibal Visit

Missouri’s senior senator toured northeast Missouri Wednesday to listen to the concerns of his constituents.

One of the stops on Senator Roy Blunt’s tour was the new Hannibal Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, where a group of business people, area leaders and the media gathered to visit with the senator about what’s important to them.

Among the topics of discussion addressed by the senator were the importance of getting money in the pending transportation bill for locks and dams along the Mississippi, especially the stretch north of St. Louis.

Other topics covered included tourism, with the number of people coming to America's Hometown bouncing back to 2019 levels after the pandemic, and rural broadband, a topic that has come to the forefront in the wake of the pandemic when so many rural Missouri students were forced into virtual classroom situations, some with little or no access to the internet.

Along with his Hannibal visit, Blunt made stops Wednesday in Perry, Monroe City, Clarence, Macon and Moberly.
