Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Hurt in Thursday Crash
Two are hurt, one of them an Adams County Sheriff’s deputy, in a three vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 172 at milepost 16 at 9:12 a.m. Thursday.
The State Police reports 29 year old Deputy Javier Lofton of Quincy was out of his vehicle, conducting a traffic stop on the right shoulder.
A southbound car, driven by 36 year old Laura Tenhouse of Camp Point, failed to slow down or change lanes, veered onto the shoulder and struck Deputy Lofton’s car in the rear.
The impact caused Lofton’s car to strike Lofton and the car he had stopped, driven by 23 year old Kevin South of Burlington, Iowa.
Tenhouse and Lofton were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Tenhouse was ticketed for failure to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle, also known as Scott’s Law, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to wear a seatbelt.
As a result of the crash, southbound I-172 was closed for about three hours Thursday.
