After a snowy beginning to the month of March, forecasters call for a cold and icy start to the week for northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

After a 6 3/4" snowfall in Hannibal over the weekend, the National Weather Service calls for a sunny Monday with highs just above freezing.

A wintry mix is a good possibility for the area Monday night into Tuesday morning. The latest storm system will bring freezing rain and sleet, then freezing rain and then rain overnight. A light glaze of ice and little or no sleet accumulation is expected.

Tuesday brings showers in the morning and a slight chance of rain and snow at night.

Clear skies move into the area Wednesday through Sunday.

Wednesday and Thursday will be cold, with highs of 20 and 25, respectively, with a low in the single digits Wednesday and the mid-teens Thursday.

A warm-up comes Friday, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s through the weekend.
