Trail Cam Near St. Louis Shows a Coyote or is It a Wolf?
I've seen a lot of coyotes and wolves in my life and I didn't think it was that hard to tell them apart. However, there's a trail camera near St. Louis that picked up an animal and I'm having a hard time telling if it's a coyote or wolf and apparently I'm not alone.
The video was just dropped on YouTube a few days ago, but the time stamp shows this happened November of last year. At first glance, I was sure it was a coyote. Second time through and I'm not sure this isn't a wolf. See what you think.
North American Nature shared some differences between coyotes and wolves. That includes the fact that wolves are larger and tend to not hang out near urban areas. They also have a pointed muzzle which is what I thought the animal had when it first appeared on the camera. When it's moving to the right, it looks larger than I thought a coyote would be.
It's worth mentioning that wolf/coyote hybrids have been reported in different parts of the country.
The fact that this happened near Eureka, Missouri also makes it less likely to be a wolf since that's basically Six Flags with woods around it.
The more I think about it, the more I'm pretty sure that it's a coyote. But, maybe I'm completely wrong...(*face palm*)
