The United Way raised nearly $200,000 for its COVID-19 Response Fund, which was set up to help with special projects and to financially assist area organizations with their pandemic related needs.

The latest beneficiary of the COVID Response Fund is the local Toys for Tots Program, coordinated by Douglass Community Services. The $2,000 mini-grant helps Douglass offset the money that would have been raised in fundraisers that did not take place this year because of COVID.

Douglass officials say the United Way grant will help them serve the 1,600 children who will benefit from Toys for Tots in 2020.
