Randy Travis and More Rally for Dallas Police Benefit Concert
Randy Travis and a number of classic country stars are headed to Dallas in late July for a benefit concert supporting the Dallas Police Department.
On July 27, Tanya Tucker, the Oak Ridge Boys, Mark Wills and many more will perform at Billy Bob's Texas as part of the Stars Behind the Stars benefit concert; Travis will "make a special appearance," per a press release about the show. The country icon is still largely unable to speak and sing as he continues to recover from his stroke in 2013, but he continues to make "giant baby steps," according to his wife, and has been attending a number of public events.
Proceeds from the Stars Behind the Stars event are being donated to the Dallas Police Association's Assist the Officer Foundation, which offers financial help to the families of active officers who have been killed -- in this instance, the families of the five police officers were killed when a a sniper opened fire during a Black Lives Matter protest in early July. In addition to Tucker, the Oaks, Wills and Travis, Collin Raye, Janie Fricke, Kelly Lang, the Bellamy Brothers, T. Graham Brown, Johnny Lee, Gene Watson, John Conlee, Ronnie McDowell, Mickey Gilley and Moe Bandy will take part in the show. TG Sheppard will act as the evening's host, with the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Band providing backup for the artists.
Tickets for Stars Behind the Stars are $10 for general admission and $20 for reserved seats; they are on sale now via the Billy Bob's website.
