Quincy Celebrates Bald Eagles, Native American Culture Sat. & Sun.
This country's enduring national symbol, and its Native American heritage will be on display this weekend in Quincy.
The Standing Bear Council and the Quincy Area Convention and Visitors Bureau are sponsoring the annual Great River Eagle Days Winter Gathering 2022 Saturday and Sunday, January 22 and 23 at the Oakley Lindsay Center and at Lock and Dam 21.
We've written before about January being the prime time of year for viewing of the American Bald Eagle as they gather around locks and dams in the area (where the water is churning and doesn't freeze) in search of a good fishing spot.
Riverfront eagle viewing this weekend will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Lock and Dam 21 off Gardner Expressway. Rangers will be there with spotting scopes.
The Standing Bear Council will hold forth with native drums and dancing, educators with flute playing and crafts for the kids, native foods, demonstrations, displays and an artifact show.
Featured will be the Omeyocan Dancers at 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Admission to the activities at the Oakley Lindsay Center is $5 for ages 10 and up and $3 if you're over 60.
