Wednesday was a deadly day on area highways, with one dead and five injured, two seriously.

One person is dead and two are seriously injured in a head-on collision on Highway 57 just south of 24th Street in Adams County just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports the driver and a passenger in one vehicle were taken to Blessing Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of all of those involved in the crash are being withheld pending notification of family and further investigation by the Illinois State Police.

Highway 57 was closed at the crash site until about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

 

A Florida man suffers minor injuries in a van/SUV crash on Highway 61 south of Hannibal at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Highway Patrol reports 76 year old Gerald Williams of Port Richey, Florida was northbound, following too closely and rear ended an SUV, driven by 22 year old Breanna O’Brien of Hannibal.

Williams was taken to Blessing Hospital in Quincy for treatment.

 

Two suffer minor injuries in a truck crash on Pike County Route B west of Frankford at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The Highway Patrol reports 33 year old Justin Fuget of New London was westbound when his pickup crossed the center line, ran off the road, struck a tree and submerged in a creek.

Fuget and his passenger, 38 year old Jessica Ellsworth of Hannibal, were taken to Hannibal Regional for treatment.
