Well, this was a bit unexpected. There's a new ranking of the safest cities in America and one of the safest places is (allegedly) located near Chicago, Illinois. Let's explore and see if this is really true.

The source of this interesting new ranking of 2022's Safest Cities in America is the ever-reliable WalletHub. If you look at their admittedly fancy map, you'll see the big dots are dangerous and the small dots are safer. Notice that one of the smallest dots is tucked up near Chicago. It's Aurora, Illinois ranked as the 37th safest city in America.

If you look at WalletHub's methodology, you'll see the factored in metrics for home and community safety, natural disaster risk and financial safety. By their measure, Aurora scored highest for home and community safety while getting dinged for financial issues.

I'm not trying to be a critic, but I have to ask why there apparently no FBI crime statistics baked into this ranking? Perhaps they were and I just missed it. I'm not saying Aurora shouldn't have been called out as a decent (or even great) place to live. Any place that Wayne & Garth call home is good enough for me.
