The body of a Louisiana, Missouri woman is found after she is swept away by rushing water Sunday night.

According to Pike County, Illinois Sheriff David Greenwood, deputies and emergency personnel were called to 275th Avenue at Hadley Creek at 10:18 p.m. Sunday on a report that a vehicle was in the creek, stalled in a low water crossing. It was also learned that a female passenger in the car had been swept away by the rushing water.

About three hours later, the body of 36 year old Michelle Bowen was recovered from the Hadley Creek, about 1500 feet north of where she was swept away.

The driver of the vehicle, 33 year old Bruce Richards of Barry, was later arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The incident remains under the investigation by the Pike County Sheriff’s Department.
