A Hull, Illinois man is in the Pike County Jail in connection with a series of apparent arson fires in Hull Sunday.

According to Sheriff David Greenwood, deputies received a call just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday, stating that someone was setting houses on fire in Hull.

When a deputy arrived, he saw a man running with a gas can that was on fire. As the deputy tried to stop the man, he poured gasoline on a vehicle, which immediately caught fire.

A man identified as 41 year old Brian Morris of Hull was taken into custody and taken to the Pike County Jail, where he awaits a court appearance.

Sheriff Greenwood reports a total of five houses and one vehicle at a separate residence were set on fire, making for six different crime scenes.

Three of the homes were occupied when the fires were set. The only house that suffered significant structural damage belonged to Morris.

Previous reports indicated the car was destroyed and the fires at the other houses either went out by themselves or were put out by neighbors or firefighters.

Agencies involved in getting the initial situation under control and in the resulting investigation include the Illinois State Police, Pike County EMS, Hull/Kinderhook Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
