More than 600 in Illinois Just Learned They’ll Be Jobless in July

A new notice sent to the state of Illinois reveals what might be one of the biggest mass layoffs in the state so far in 2025. More than 600 workers are reportedly being let go beginning in July.

The Illinois Work Net Center site is reporting that a huge number of workers will be jobless starting on July 8, 2025. It says that Carle Health located at 3310 Fields South Drive in Champaign, Illinois will be laying off 612 according to a WARN notice submitted to the state.

The reason provided for this imminent mass layoff is a closure according to the Illinois Work Net Center site.

There was a press release back in February when Health Alliance announced that all lines of business would be discontinued with the exception of Medicare Advantage. They cited inflation and drug costs along with a number of factors that they said resulted in "considerable financial strain".

The only layoff in Illinois that was larger than this one just announced was the release of more than 1,000 by Inter-Con in early March. This brings the total number of workers let go in just the past 90 days to 6,549 according to the Illinois Work Net Center.
