Is It Legal To Eat Food While Driving in Missouri?
Eating and driving are becoming more common as most of us on on the go all the time. In Missouri can you get a ticket if you're caught eating and driving?
The short answer is no. Just like in Illinois, there is no specific law that states you can't drive and eat at the same time. However, in Illinois, if you get into an accident or your driving becomes erratic you might be cited for your actions. Just be careful, a 2017 accident report shows that over 750 cars were involved in accidents where drivers were distracted by eating and drinking.
Distracted driving comes in many forms, and eating a cheeseburger can be just as distracting as talking on a handheld cell phone. In fact, in 2017, there were 759 car accidents in this state that were caused by drivers who were distracted by eating or drinking!
There are easy snacks and foods that you can eat while you drive that won't cause accidents, but eating something like a Big Mac, taco, or anything that requires you to have two hands might not be the best thing to eat while you drive. Even if it's a short distance, just wait for you to to your destination before you start chowing down.
