Hannibal’s Main Street Comes Alive for Living Windows Saturday

One of the many things you gotta love about this place we call America's Hometown is that, yes, we have our marquee celebrations throughout the year, from the Chocolate Extravaganza in March to the Folk Life Festival in October.

And then, within those marquee festivals are marquee events, things that could, and over the years have, stood on their own as happenings that draw a lot of people.

For National Tom Sawyer Days, it's the fence painting and the music at Tanyard Gardens. at Halloween, it's the Jaycees Haunted House.

For the Victorian Festival of Christmas, it's Living Windows.

For all the celebrations Hannibal hosts, there are only a handful of times the North Main Street Historic District is closed to vehicular traffic. One of them is when everyone comes downtown for Living Windows.

In case you're not familiar with this downtown Hannibal Christmas tradition, Saturday night the storefront windows of the businesses in the historic district literally come to life, sporting all manner of holiday displays, from Santa and the Grinch to singers and dancers to reindeer (fake ones) to puppies (real ones).

Preceding Living Windows Saturday will be the Babes in Toyland kid's parade along Main Street at 4 p.m., followed by Living Windows from 5 to 8 p.m.
