We knew there was a lot of rain coming to Missouri and Illinois, but a late change in direction put St. Louis directly in the path of moisture that has resulted in flash flooding that has overwhelmed the city.

Storms moving through Missouri and Illinois overnight and into Tuesday ended up dropping several inches of rain into the metro St. Louis area. Reports of thousands of drivers being stranded in flood waters continue to be seen online. KSDK out of St. Louis had a crew that got caught up in flash flooding who captured video of how bad it's been. 7 inches of rain in some areas over just 5 hours.

Fox 2 out of St. Louis are reporting that many roads and even interstates are closed because of the flood water.

5 inches of rain in 7 hours has led to St. Louis being in the middle of a flood emergency as News Nation reports.

Dan Robinson shared video showing some of the traffic backed up on I-70 overnight when the deluge started.
