I was at a stoplight over the weekend and needed to make a u-turn as soon as I could.

I decided to make a u-turn at a pretty big intersection, which felt highly illegal.  Luckily, there were no signs saying I couldn't do it.

Is It Illegal To Make A U-Turn At Any Illinois Intersection?

According to Shmoop,

"At most intersections, as long as there's not a “No U-turn” sign. Make sure you still wait for that green light though. If you'll recall, that means, “go.”"

When you're at an intersection waiting to turn left and decide you want to make a u-turn, be sure there is no sign that prohibits you!

Plus, be super careful no oncoming traffic is within 500 feet of your vehicle at the time.

Illinois General Assembly says,

"No vehicle shall be turned so as to proceed in the opposite direction upon any curve, or upon the approach to or near the crest of a grade, where such vehicle cannot be seen by the driver of any other vehicle approaching from either direction within 500 feet."

Basically, U-turns are totally legal when there aren't "No U-Turn" signs.  If you're aware of your surroundings and vigilant enough, you should be totally okay.  Safe driving and fingers crossed you don't get a ticket!
