Sturgill Simpson fans, the wait is over: A new song from the Americana star has arrived, and it's for a new movie. Readers can press play above to hear "The Dead Don't Die."

Written for Jim Jarmusch's new zombie flick of the same name, "The Dead Don't Die" is a reflection on mortality, and the desire to keep loved ones' memories alive: "Oh, the dead don't die / Anymore than you or I," Simpson sings atop a lightly clomping melody, which becomes a bit brighter at its bridge. "After life is over, the afterlife goes on."

"The Dead Don't Die" is Simpson's first new music since the release of 2016's A Sailor's Guide to Earth, though it's a standalone single, not a sign that more new music is on the way.

The Dead Don't Die, which is due out on Friday (June 14), stars Selena Gomez, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton and Bill Murray, as well as a diverse cast of musicians: Simpson, Tom Waits, RZA and Iggy Pop. Simpson's song plays numerous times throughout the movie, and many of the character's name-drop him.

Providing this song for The Dead Don't Die isn't Simpson's first foyer into film. He stars in the CBS All Access original series One Dollar, a gig he jokingly called a "mid-life crisis." Additionally, earlier this year, the singer revealed that he planned to step back in front of the cameras for a role in Queen & Slima romantic drama that follows a black couple as they face a life-threatening situation on their first date and have no choice but to go on the run.
