Data collected by a website called datacommons.org shows that Missouri ranks in the top ten in the United States when it comes to violent crimes committed per capita (on this scale they use its per 100,000 people).

According to the website Missouri comes in at the number 8 spot on the list with 495 violent crimes committed against people for every 100,000 people, now that is about 400 off the pace of the first pace state for violent crimes Alaska, which comes in at 867 crimes per 100,000 people. Other states in the top ten consist of New Mexico in second, and then 3rd place through 7th place is all southern states, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Now where does Illinois and Iowa fall on this list as we look closer to home here in the Tri-States, well Illinois comes in at 18th on the list with 406 violent crimes per 100,000 people, and Iowa is back in 38th place with only 266 violent crimes per 100,000. Now which state has the least violent crimes committed per capita? Well that would be none other than Maine with only 115.

I can honestly say the rankings for this are fairly surprising, you would just assume that because of the violence in Chicago that Illinois would be in the top ten, but it just goes to show that the rest of Illinois is overall safe from violent crimes. Do you think you are safer from a violent crime being committed against you in Illinois, Missouri, or Iowa?
