No One Knows The Name of This Tri-State Area Menu Item

When I first came to the Mid-west I was introduced to a lot of new things, but this sandwich was defiantly at the top of my list.

What the heck is this sandwich with just chopped ground beef and pickles? I would soon come to learn that there are a few names for this one sandwich. Some people called it a maid-rite, others a loose meat sandwich, and my personal favorite sloppy joes, bit whatever you call it they are pretty yummy.

Most of the Tri-States' call this sandwich a maid-rite, which by definition is just chopped season meat which was created in Iowa back in 1926 according to qctimes.com.

A butcher, Fred Angell, created the sandwich by steaming hamburger instead of frying it and slurried in some spices. He offered one of his sandwiches to a delivery man who was so enthused The name Maid-Rite was born. 

No if you go to the Maid-Rite restaurant here in Quincy, you better be sure to know the difference between "wet" and dry" Maid-Rite, NEVER ask for a sloppy joe, and always bring cash. It seems to be an insult when you order a sloppy joe (which has seasoned ketchup sauce mixed in it) which is NOT on the menu. Plus, you never eat with a fork and never tip the waitress, that one is a hard rule to follow.

A majority of you agree the sandwich is called a Maid-Rite, and I think it has a lot to do with the restaurant. I've never heard it called a loose meat sandwich, although some of you do call it that. Whatever you call it, they are pretty delicious and a favorite in my household for sure.
