According to the website bankrate.com, Missouri is the 5th best state in the country to retire in, behind only Flordia which came in first, followed by Georgia in second, Michigan in third, and Ohio in fourth. Missouri certainly doesn't have a great desert climate like Arizona, so why is it ranked so high on the list? According to the site they say...

"Fifth-place Missouri is affordable and has a comparatively moderate climate. However, the Show-Me State’s culture, crime and wellness scores are subpar."

They rank the states based on a number of different categories like Affordability, Culture and Diversity, Weather, and of course Crime. Missouri ranks 3rd in affordability, 19th in weather, and sadly 42nd in crime.

For our readers on the Illinois side of the river where does the Land of Lincoln fall on this list? Well, not as bad as you might expect, Illinois ranks 16th overall for retirement ahead of states like New York, Wisconsin, Indiana, and South Carolina. The worst states to retire in are Alaska, Maine, and California. To see the complete list for yourself just click here!

Missouri definitely seems like a state I would consider retiring in. And even though Michigan is cold, I would totally retire there because of the access to the great lakes, and all the breweries! Which state would you want to retire in?
