I've always heard about Black Friday shoppers fighting over hot Christmas items, but I've never actually seen a fight break out. That might be surprising, as it turns out I live in one of the Top 5 states "where you’re most likely to encounter fights at Black Friday sales."

Before Missourians get too embarrassed over this news, we should probably take these rankings with a grain of salt... or maybe a truckload of salt. Estately put together a list of The States Where You’re Most Likely to Encounter Fights at Black Friday Sales based on only two pieces of data: Facebook users expressing interest in Black Friday sales, and FBI data indicating the frequency of aggravated assaults by state. That doesn't sound like the most scientific method, but I don't think this is intended to be a scientific report. It's more of a conversation starter that's kind of fun to look at (even if your home state doesn't do that well).

"To determine just where it’s most dangerous to participate in Black Friday we at Estately sought to determine where people are most likely to be participating in Black Friday sales and where people are most prone to violently attacking each other." Missouri ranked 10th in the nation for excitement about Black Friday shopping, and 9th for frequency of aggravated assaults.

Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana and Missouri were the five states at the top of Estately's list. Vermont, Oregon, New Jersey, Hawaii and Massachusetts were at the bottom. Kansas placed 9th and Iowa barely missed the Top 10, coming in at 11th. Illinois ranked 23rd.
