You could try to make up a story like this, but I doubt it would be as good as what really happened. A midwestern guy called 911 to report he was tired and ended up getting a free nap...in jail.

I saw this doozy of a story on The Smoking Gun. They report that Daniel Schroeder from Indiana called 911 to let them know he was tired...really really tired. That's a problem especially when you do it multiple times like Daniel allegedly did. When I say multiple times, I really mean FOUR times as per the police report as shared by The Smoking Gun.

In police terms, this is known as a Chapter 5.21. Code Publishing gives the gory details of exactly what that means:

Misuse of the 911 system” is a request for emergency response when no actual emergency exists and when the caller does not have a good faith basis to request emergency assistance. This definition includes false reporting, as that term is defined under RCW 9A.84.040, and telephone harassment, as that term is defined under RCW 9.61.230.

In layman's terms, Daniel was allegedly causing emergency dispatchers to repeatedly deal with him when that might have delayed them in responding to a real emergency.

That reminds me of a story more than a decade old of a police officer who accidentally ate brownies that were "enhanced" which led him to call 911.

Here's hoping that Daniel got the rest he needed behind bars and learned his lesson. Allegedly.
