Margo Price Is Producing New Music for Jessi Colter
An outlaw legend and one of her sonic children let the cat out of the bag on social media: Jessi Colter's been in the studio with Margo Price.
Per an Instagram post from Colter: "[Price] & I recorded last week ... she’s the bomb producer & her band defied gravity ... it was a dance. We did my original recent songs ... with whole new sound ... more news to come."
In the 1970s, Colter excelled as the singer of "I'm Not Lisa" and other classics, and as a duet partner with her husband, Waylon Jennings. Most famously, she shared top billing on 1976's Wanted! The Outlaws compilation with Jennings, Willie Nelson and Tompall Glaser.
Colter has released just three albums since 1986. Only 2006's Out of the Ashes primarily featured country music.
Few match the attitude, taste and quality of Colter's catalog quite like Price, making her the ideal in-studio partner for one of country music's living legends. And, unsurprisingly, Price seems equally giddy about the fruits of Colter's latest sessions.
"I spent the entire past week producing the new Jessi Colter album and I’ve got to say, it’s incredible," writes Price on Instagram. "Her songwriting, her playing, her voice are as strong as ever. She is the OG Queen of 'Outlaw' Country."
Further details on Colter's new project have yet to be announced. Price, meanwhile, released her sophomore album, All American Made, in 2017, and is awaiting the arrival of her third child.
