Barge travel along the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers through northeast Missouri and western Illinois will benefit if the Trump administration has its way.

The Trump transition team recently made a list of 50 priority infrastructure projects it would like to see come to pass.

Two of the projects on the list are lengthening of lock chambers on the Mississippi River locks at Canton, Quincy, Saverton, Clarksville and Winfield, and expansion of the Illinois River locks at LaGrange and Peoria.

The two projects are estimated to cost about two-and-a-half billion dollars and would create about 2,500 jobs.

A similar list of priorities was approved by Congress in 2007, but was never funded.
