Illinois Took Another Massive Step Towards Becoming California

According to NBC Chicago, senate lawmakers in Illinois officially past what is commonly known as the "Ban on Skittles Bill" which would outlaw certain foods to be sold in Illinois. The law that was already passed in California has made it to Illinois and now has to go through the House in the Land of Lincoln. If it passes the House and becomes law, what happens?

In the article from NBC Chicago, they say "the Illinois Food Safety Act would ban a quartet of food additives, including brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben and red dye no. 3..." The article goes on to mention that the makers of these foods would have until 2028 to make changes to their foods in order for them to be legally sold in Illinois. Is this a good idea?

Countries in Europe already have laws like this and some of these companies have different recipes for their products sold in the USA vs Europe, so it's not completely new for these companies to face this challenge. If we KNOW that these chemicals are causing cancer I do think it is smart to eliminate those chemicals from what we eat, but I just struggle with the balance between freedom of choice and government overreach.
