Alarming Number of Dengue Fever Cases in Illinois, CDC Warns
It might just be the most urgent health issue in America right now and it's especially becoming a big problem for Illinois. The CDC is warning about an explosion of cases of dengue fever and Illinois is among the states with the most incidents.
Dengue fever is a virus that is spread from mosquitos to people and it can become a serious health issue for the those who's health is most vulnerable. The CDC has begun sharing warnings about the explosion of cases and they show that Illinois is among the states with the biggest upturn in dengue cases as of this writing.
The good news so far is the CDC says that the chance that dengue fever becomes a widespread national issue is what they call "low". But, in states like Illinois where there have already been 27 cases in 2024 and New Jersey which just had 41 cases reported, there is danger.
That is also problematic for Illinois specifically as already there have been cases of West Nile Virus reported in Illinois last month connected to mosquitos.
If there's any consolation for the state of Illinois as a whole, it appears most of the dengue fever cases have been concentrated mainly in Cook County and very few reports downstate - so far.
Let's hope this is just a brief trend up during the summer months and not an indication of a growing problem later this year.
