Rare White Bald Eagle Just Spotted in Southwestern Missouri
Here's something you don't see every day or perhaps ever. A rare white bald eagle has just been spotted by a resident in the southwestern part of Missouri.
The Missouri Department of Conservation just shared these incredible pictures that were shared with them by Betty Daniel. It's technically called a Leucistic bald eagle that she and her husband spotted last weekend in Stella.
How rare is a white bald eagle?
One of these bald eagles that appear white due to the lack of pigmentation in their feathers, eyes and skin is extremely rare. Their occurrence in nature is rare and to see and photograph one is even more out of the ordinary. The Jackie and Shadow sub-Reddit dedicated to following the very popular eagle couple in the west has pictures of these unique eagles over the years.
This is one of the prime times of years to see eagles in Missouri especially close to the rivers as they hunt for winter prey. There are numerous locations in Missouri where you are practically guaranteed to see eagles now. If you happen to see a white one like Betty Daniel did, better hope your camera is ready to capture the moment because most people will never see one in their lifetime.
