Move Over! Illinois Trooper’s Car Hit for 8th Time
You would think that Illinois drivers would have gotten the message by now. For the 8th time this year, a state trooper's car in Illinois has been impacted by a driver that was allegedly not abiding by Scott's Law.
What is Scott's Law in Illinois?
The state requires all drivers to move over and slow down when an emergency vehicle is pulled over on a roadway. Not doing so has resulted in many serious accidents including one that just took place according to Troop 3 of the Illinois State Police on their Facebook page.
According to the Illinois State Police dashboard, this is the 8th Scott's Law violation in 2025 already. Two impacts have been reported on consecutive days this past week.
The Public Information Office of the Illinois State Police say that a Scott's Law violation can result in fines between $250 and $10,000 and licenses can be lost from 6 months to 2 years depending on the severity of the accident. That law also applies to emergency vehicles in motion that are seen approaching. If you collide with an emergency vehicle in Illinois that's in service, trouble awaits. In this incident, the driver who allegedly impacted the Illinois State Police car was taken to the hospital with injuries. It does not appear that the trooper suffered serious injuries based on the report shared by Troop 3.
