If you've lived in Missouri long enough, you understand that winter storms and systems can be very unpredictable including when they're just a couple of days away. Be aware that one computer model is showing that the next winter storm could impact Missouri in a big way within one week.

I cannot emphasize enough that this is NOT a forecast and it's NOT a prediction either. It's a possibility. I was looking at the GFS computer model on Pivotal Weather and noticed something odd. It is showing the development of the next winter storm system which would be named Demi.

Please keep in mind that models can and do change all the time so a new run tomorrow could show something totally different, but the GFS has been showing a winter storm that will begin impacting Missouri on Friday, January 17.

The storm appears like it will continue through Friday into Saturday, January 18, 2025.

By the time it's Sunday, January 19, this is what the current GFS model shows the total snowfall will be. Notice the rather intense heavy snow amounts in mid-Missouri.

But wait, there's something very important to mention...

Before you go bracing for another winter blast impacting Missouri, it's very important to note that there is NOT agreement with other weather models that winter storm Demi will form and impact Missouri next week. The European model shows precipitation in southern Missouri, but not the northern half of the state at this point.

I'm not the only one with my eyes on this system as Live Storm Chasers also shared an outlook on Facebook/Meta.

I share this only as a possibility of something to watch for and not a real forecast or prediction or warning of weather to plan for. That is something you should only trust the National Weather Service for.

I would love for the GFS to be wrong about what January 18 through the 20th might be like, but please watch for advisories if this storm really does develop. As the National Weather Service says "Watch, Prepare, Act" and we're definitely only at the watch part as of right now.
