New Madrid Fault Rumbles as Missouri Sees 6 Quakes in 4 Days
If you're interested in earthquakes in or near Missouri, you might want to know that there have been a cluster of six earthquakes from the New Madrid Fault over the span of just four days.
If you check the USGS map for recent New Madrid quakes today, this is what you'll see
I don't want to make too much of this, but just sharing because I find it interesting. As I write this, it's Monday, November 17, 2025. Since Friday, November 14, 2025, there have been 6 New Madrid quakes plus another in north-central Arkansas. None have been very significant with the largest only measuring 2.3 magnitude on the Richter Scale and only a few of these have even been felt. It's just the increase in frequency that caught my interest. Since I check the USGS site several times per day, I can tell you that an average week will see around 3 or 4 New Madrid quakes. This new uptick is likely just an outlier, but it is more frequent activity than I'm used to seeing.
The video above is a great example of what I often see when the New Madrid Fault becomes more active. I've had enough exchanges with the USGS to tell you that this is no reason for alarm at all. While it's interesting to watch what the New Madrid Fault is up to, it does NOT mean it's a foreshadowing of a major Missouri earthquake event. We can't know that until after it's happened, but it's always a good idea to pay attention to what the earth is doing under our feet. Someday, we'll have to deal with a major event. Fortunately, today is not that day - yet.
