World Atlas just shared a fun list of what they consider to be the 6 most charming river towns in the Ozarks and this Missouri place beat out the many Arkansas options. Congrats to little ole Van Buren, Missouri for taking their top spot. This historic town was founded in 1833 and was also later named the Carter County seat. Last time I looked, the population of Van Buren was barely over 700. Thanks to the fact that the Current River is nearby, you'll see plenty of canoes in this part of Missouri. I can't remember if the last float trip I took with my dad went by Van Buren, but it had to be close.

Seeing Van Buren called out for its charm reminds me why I'll always prefer the smaller places in Missouri that will never be messed up by overdevelopment. It's almost like the kind of America that isn't seen much anymore where you get some unspoiled nature in your backyard while not lacking things to do. I'll take that over big (or bigger) city life anytime.
