50 Missouri Places With Stories That Sound Too Strange to Be True

Missouri is one state that really embraces strangeness as a compliment. There are numerous locations in the state that have a bizarre, but compelling history that makes them must-visit destinations.

I grew up in Missouri where my dad would tell me wild tales about Mo-Mo (our state's version of Bigfoot), strange secrets hidden underground in caves, etc. You don't have to look far in my birth state to find a place that has strange facts associated with it. Here are some of my favorites:

I can't say that I've been to 100% of the places on this Missouri list, but it's close. Caves were always a family favorite as I was growing up and each had a legend within, many having to do with Jesse James and his gang hiding out there. There's also stories of treasure buried in various parts of Missouri that have never been found. Even though this list is long, it's just the tip of the iceberg for strangeness in Missouri.
