What Happened When a Missouri Mushroom Hunter Met Bear with Cubs
There are so many ways this encounter in the Missouri woods could have gone so very wrong. A mushroom hunter in Missouri was out looking for morels when he found something else instead. It was a mother bear with cubs in tow and he has video showing what happened.
This potentially terrifying mother bear with cubs moment in Missouri was captured by Cedar Gap Hounds. Since the video he shared is a YouTube short, I'm not certain of the date. All I do know is this is a teachable moment for anyone that encounters an apex predator like this in the Missouri woods.
As he exited the tree line, he spotted this bear family not that far away.
The video shows the tense moment as he assessed how many bears he was dealing with.
Bears have a bad reputation thanks to media sites (admittedly I've been guilty) like mine sharing the more intense encounters. Normally, bears are herbivores that feed on vegetation and avoid human contact and interaction. The main instances when bear encounters go wrong is when a bear is surprised by a human and/or when cubs are near. A mama bear will attack or at least bluff charge if they think a threat is near her young ones.
I believe the guy who shared this video is an experienced outdoorsman. It would be easy to second-guess and say that he should have made some noise to alert the bears to his presence before they got close, but his judgement is likely better than mine. Just glad this ended with the bears continuing to do bear things and him not being hurt either.
