2 Missouri Families Claim a Moving Company Ripped Them Off
This is a nightmare. There are two Missouri families who say they hired a moving company only to find out later that some of their belongings were allegedly stolen and others the company refused to unload until more fees were paid.
This alarming new story was just shared today by MoneyWise. They say that Stephanie Mickles hired a company known as Super Cheap Movers LLC. The report says the initial charge for the move was supposed to be $584. She says that the company refused to unload the most expensive belongings until additional fees were paid. When she tried to pay the additional money through the Cash app, she received a scam alert so she called the police. The movers then allegedly took off with more than $10,000 of merchandise before police arrived.
The report says another victim was Teresa Fuller. She says the company also tried to charge her over and above what was originally quoted and when she refused to pay, they tried to leave with her grandmother's belongings, but she blocked them in her driveway until the police arrived.
Authorities warn that any mover who wants to be paid through the Cash app is cause for concern. Experts say that you should verify that the moving company you hire is licensed and insured. It's also vital to avoid any company that will not give you a specific business address. Checking the Better Business Bureau site and not just relying on Google reviews is also prudent. Online reviews are not foolproof and can be spoofed. If you can find a reliable local reference, that's even better.
