Missouri Announces September Offensive on Invasive Carp
If you believe that something needs to be done about the ever-growing invasive carp population, then you're on the same wavelength as the Missouri Department of Conservation as they have announced they will start a new offensive starting in September.
Invasive carp are dangerous to native fish in Missouri, but also boaters as they can fly out of the water - literally
The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced that multiple dates in September they will be focusing on removing invasive carp from the Platte River. Here are the details they shared of where and when this battle against invasive carp will happen:
"On Sept. 8-11 and Sept. 22-25, MDC will close the Schimmel City Access for the fish removal project. The access is located in Platte County, just north of Farley, Mo."
What's the big problem with invasive carp?
These nasty fish reproduce quickly and become too large for native fish to deal with eventually taking over the ecosystem for themselves. They become a problem for boaters because they will jump out of the water when startled. Trust me when I tell you that you don't want a collision with one of these huge carp. It's no joke that serious injuries can result. Let's hope this renewed focus by the Missouri Department of Conservation is successful. The less invasive silver carp in our waters, the better for all of us.
