I've been trying to organize something for the past two years and just can't seem to get everything in order to make it happen. Perhaps you can help. I am convinced that Missouri and/or Illinois needs an annual turkey drop. Here's how to make this dream a reality.

If you aren't familiar with WKRP's famous Thanksgiving Turkey Drop episode, what have you been doing with your life? Seriously. Here's a refresher.

The premise is station manager Mr. Carlson and sales manager Herb Tarlek think it would be a great event to drop turkeys out of a helicopter. They don't know that turkeys can't fly and they "hit the pavement like wet cement".

If you're PETA, please calm down. I'm not advocating the dropping of real turkeys. However, I think we can celebrate the spirit of this Thanksgiving event in our own special way. Here's my idea:

  • We drop turkey pinatas out of a plane and/or helicopter
  • The turkey pinatas are filled with candy and prizes
  • We do this at a public location where no one will be harmed (or so I hope)

Here's my problem. The insurance people seem adverse to signing off on me dropping anything from the sky. Imagine that. I also need a pilot and a plane or helicopter. Got one we could borrow? I also need a place. Anyone in Quincy and/or Hannibal that has an open area they'd be willing to donate for this spectacular Thanksgiving tradition?

I've tried to work this out on my own, but I'm at a dead end. I will not be stopped though. I remain convinced that Hannibal and/or Quincy NEEDS this turkey drop. Let's work together to make it happen.
