There are several ways you can look at the following fact. A prepper map shows that Missouri is apparently full of fallout shelters. Whether you consider this good or bad news depends on your world view.

I found this new share on the Missouri sub-Reddit. It says "Is there enough fallout shelter space for the entire US population?: So many in Missouri?"

I'm fairly certain that the map shared on the Missouri sub-Reddit originated from True Prepper. I found another Google Map they created especially for Missouri which shows were fallout shelters are located.

Their map includes the following sites:

  • Mercer County Circuit Clerk
  • Adams Park Apartments
  • Chillicothe City
  • United States Postal Service
  • Macon Elks Lodge #999
  • United States Postal Service
  • Ray County Courthouse
  • United States Postal Service
  • Housing Unit 4 Missouri State Pen - Jefferson City MO
  • Liberty Center Association for the Arts
  • Hotel Bothwell Sedalia Central District, Ascend Hotel Collection
  • United States Postal Service
  • Henry County Courthouse
  • Audrain County Courthouse
  • Parking Garage, Kansas City, Missouri
  • First Methodist Church of North Kansas City, Missouri
  • St Louis County Police Department
  • St Francois Circuit Court
  • Clark School Lofts
  • Rock Spring School Fallout Shelter - St. Louis, Missouri
  • Former Police Garage Fallout Shelter - St. Louis, Missouri
  • Peoples Hospital Fallout - St. Louis, Missouri
  • Stifel Theatre
  • Municipal Courts Building Fallout Shelter - St. Louis, MO
  • Bremen Bank - St. Louis, Missouri
  • Springfield Underground
  • Meramec Caverns
  • Onondaga Cave State Park
  • Center High School

I have so many questions. First, I know that Missouri used to have a very active civil emergency plan and locations list, but I wonder how many of these sites are still viable? I also wonder what the plan for managing how many people would be allowed in these fallout shelters would be? During the Cold War, this type of emergency shelter management was on the top of many people's minds. Now? Not so much. Let's hope these vital areas of protection are never needed.
