Alarming New Stats on Abuse of Women in Missouri
I tend to be naive and I like it that way. However, this is one of those instances where it's important to understand what's really going on so we can do something about it. New data shows a disturbing percentage of Missouri women who have experienced domestic abuse or will at some point in their lifetime.
This new data recently shared by World Population Review reveals that Missouri has a major problem when it comes to how women in the state are treated. There's a lot to digest here, but let's start with the big picture number of how many women in Missouri will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.
53.7% of Missouri women will experience physical or mental abuse which is simply not acceptable. Even one case is too many, but surely we can do better than this. Here are some other troubling numbers to consider. 45% of Missouri women will experience some type of sexual abuse. More than 48% will endure psychological abuse and nearly 12% will be a victim of stalking.
What can a Missouri woman do if she's experiencing any type of abuse?
The Missouri Department of Social Services offers many ways to help. They say they can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or the National Sexual Assault Hotline 1-800-656-4673. Anyone that believes they are in immediate danger should call 911 immediately without hesitation.
