Missouri Patrol Issues Urgent Boat Explosion Alert
Most boaters in Missouri understand the risks of their leisure passion, but too many overlook what should be a simple process, but hidden dangers of simple boat maintenance could become a life-threatening situation. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has just issued a new warning about that boating threat.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol just shared an urgent warning on their social media pages this week about a scenario they see play out much too often when boaters attempt to gas up without taking necessary precautions.
The blower system in a boat's engine compartment is vital to safely fueling your ride at a dock. If flammable vapors are not expelled, that routine gas up could become tragic. It's also vital to check your engine compartment for potential fuel leaks. Even what look like minor cracks or creases in hoses can allow fuel and/or vapors to create a dangerous situation. Boat US says that most manufacturers recommend that fuel lines be replaced once every 10 to 15 years. Also make sure starters, alternators, pumps and electrical equipment are labeled as "ignition protected".
Ventilation and maintenance are key. It's easy to forget simple actions like this, but as the Missouri State Highway Patrol mentions, it can have catastrophic consequences if not done frequently and correctly.
