Missouri’s Best Off-Grid Tiny Town is Super Close to St. Louis?
Let me get this straight. You say you want to find one of the best tiny towns in Missouri that's off-grid yet you're telling me that it's only minutes away from the big city of St. Louis? Someone has some explaining to do.
Does this small Missouri town look like it is located just an arm's length away from St. Louis?
The fine folks at World Atlas say that this is the best off-grid tiny town in Missouri and I don't disagree with their conclusion. This is Kimmswick, Missouri with a population of only 131 residents. This is how close tiny Kimmswick is to the murder capital of America St. Louis.
It's true that part of the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company lived in Kimmswick and their home remains. Kimmswick is about as close as you can get to "cozy" in Missouri. The fact that a tiny community like this is so close to St. Louis blows my mind. It really does look like the town was preserved in a time capsule from a century or more ago and that's a compliment.
I'm not sure that any town in Missouri can be considered off-grid in this modern era, but this would be the one place in Missouri where you would do well to put your phone away and turn it off. There aren't many nicer places to relax in the state and the fact that St. Louis is just a hop, skip and a jump to the north is remarkable.
