There are a lot of ways to tell if you're having a good year. If you're a person, perhaps that means you're making more money than the previous year. If you're a city, you suddenly find yourself ranked as a best place to live which is exactly what happened to a Missouri city recently.

I'm used to most of these "best this" or "best that" lists arriving in January. It seems that one of the internet's favorite ways to start a new year is to start ranking things. That's why I was more than a little surprised to see Livability issue a new best places to live list here in the middle of summer 2023.

I noticed that one Missouri place in particular was suddenly getting praise. It's not really new for Lee's Summit, Missouri being declared a best place to live. I remember back in 2017 they topped just about every one of these best places lists like Money Magazine and some pretty major publications.

I am not a big city person. Give me the laid back pace of life any day any time over a fast-moving metro. That's one thing I'll say about Lee's Summit, Missouri. From my brief time in that area, the pace really isn't that fast even though it's more or less Kansas City. It's one of those special places where it maintains a small town vibe, but still has a ton of things to do that don't require a lot of travel.

I'm apparently not alone in feeling that way about Lee's Summit as it's now ranked as one of the best places to live in America here in the middle of summer.
