As UPS continues to restructure its company, they have rolled out a payout program in an effort to convince full-time drivers to walk away. If they resign, they can receive what UPS describes as a "generous financial package".

If you're a UPS driver in Illinois, your perspective on this will likely depend on whether you're late in your career or not. UPS has just shared their "US Driver Voluntary Program". Here are two key aspects of it as shared by UPS:

  • The voluntary offer provides $1,800 per year of service at UPS, with a minimum payout of $10,000. All years of service will be honored.
  • The financial package available through our Driver Voluntary Separation Program is in addition to any earned retirement benefits, including pension and healthcare.

The company also said it would honor agreements made with the Teamsters union back in 2023. The Teamsters do not seem impressed with what UPS has offered stating the following on their Facebook page:

"UPS wants to shovel more cash to its executives and buy back even more of its own stock — all off the backs of hardworking Teamsters. UPS is violating our national contract. All full-time members are urged to reject this sham buyout proposal. We will not be sold out or sold short. Our good union jobs are not for sale!"

It remain to be seen how many or if any UPS drivers in Illinois decide to walk away and accept the payout offer. Turbulent times for sure for one of America's long-time delivery brands.
