There is no good time to find out you'll be jobless, but it's especially tough near the end of the year with holidays close. That's the sad reality for 134 Illinois workers who just learned they'll be jobless at the end of the year as a major plant will be closing.

This is the Georgia-Pacific plant located at 900 S Route 66 in Mount Olive, Illinois

According to the Illinois Work Net Center site, a WARN notice has been received from Georgia-Pacific alerting the state that 134 workers will be let go effective December 31, 2025. A press release from Georgia-Pacific directly confirms this sad news. It states the following:

"Approximately 134 jobs will be impacted by this closure. We are working to support those employees with potential opportunities within Georgia-Pacific and other Koch companies or connecting with job fairs and opportunities for employment outside the company."

They go on to say that Georgia-Pacific will begin bargaining with hourly workers who are represented by the United Steelworkers according to the current contract. The company says they'll focus on a safe and orderly closure of the plant and will make a decision about the property where the plant is located once they have exited the facility.
