I found this interesting list on the St. Louis, Missouri sub-Reddit. It's a do not stop list shared by a safety group that works with trucking companies. Pay special attention to the Illinois and Iowa locations that Missouri truckers say you should avoid if at all possible.

For what it's worth, they mention a Missouri truck stop considered too dangerous for truckers, too.

One personal note. If I were you, I'd never stop ANYWHERE in East St. Louis, Illinois. Last time I traveled through there, I literally saw smoldering buildings along one of the main roads and people were walking by like that was normal (which sadly it often is).
