Illinois Seeks Mystery $10 Million Lottery Winner This Week
Someone stopped at a grocery store in Illinois this week and walked out with an almost unimaginable fortune, but their identity is unknown and the state is looking for them right now as they're owed more than $10 million dollars.
If this Illinois supermarket looks familiar to you, we need to talk

According to the Illinois Lottery, someone on August 1, 2026 stopped in Tony's Fresh Market located at 2300 S Route 59 in Plainfield, Illinois and picked up a Lotto ticket. That ticket is now worth $10,250,004. There's just one small problem with this news. This life-changing prize is now listed on the Illinois Lottery's Unclaimed Prizes site. I'm hopeful that the person with the winning ticket knows it's a winner and is just getting their ducks in a row before coming forward. Still, it's possible that someone has the winning ticket and doesn't realize it yet.
How much would the take home amount be on a $10,250,004 Illinois Lottery win after taxes?
Here's what the online lottery tax calculators say:
- Initial Federal Withholding (24%): Automatically deducted by the Illinois Lottery, amounting to $2,460,001
- State Tax Withholding (4.95%): Illinois flat income tax, amounting to $507,375
- Immediate Check Amount: Approximately $7,272,403
I'm not giving financial advice and rarely see bills larger than $20 so don't take my word for it, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that this is life-changing money. Many people could easily retire and live happily ever after on that kind of fortune. I'd hate to see someone have a ticket and have it misplaced before they realize they are a multi-millionaire.
